Thomas William Witman Sr., 70.  Tom entered this world 15 Sep 1946 in Harrisburg, Pa and departed 9 Nov 2016 at home in Tarpon Springs, Fla.
Tom was the son of the late William W Jr and Jane (Allen) Witman.

After JHHS graduation Tom joined the Navy; he liked to say he “spent six years underwater” in submarines.  During his 22 year Naval career Tom earned his Masters Degree and retired as a Senior Chief Petty Officer.  He was an excellent social worker and addictions counselor.  He mentored many people in 12-step programs these past 30+ years.  He was a member of Circular Congregational Church and an elder in the Mankind Project.

Tom was awarded a 2014 “Westie” for Excellence in Community Service for his 6 year efforts to open a Senior Center West Ashley, Charleston, SC.  He was an accomplished oil paint artist and an avid fantasy team sports enthusiast, living to see the Cubs win the World Series.  For 34 years he played “Acey Deucey” Friday evenings with his wife, Sandy.  She now is sorry she recently beat him 18 times in a row.  He was a prankster and really great at pulling your leg without making it hurt.  Tom had a big giving heart.  He loved life, his family, friends, and never met a dog he didn’t like.
Tom is survived by wife Sandra (Breese), sister Gail Schmiedel, children Carolee Dunn, Thomas Jr, Sean and Kevin Balkwill, 6 grandchildren and a nephew.

A Memorial Gathering and Celebration of Life was held 25 Nov, 2016, Honeymoon Island State Park, Dunedin, Fl.
