Ruth K. Whittier, 99, a resident of The Bridges at Bent Creek, Mechanicsburg and formerly of Connecticut, went to be with the Lord on Friday, December 2, 2016 at her residence.
Born August 2, 1917 in Bridgeport, CT she was the daughter of the late Alfred and Ida (Wheeler) Knapp.
She attended Bridgeport Normal School and was a graduate of Danbury State College and the University of Hartford.  She was a member of the Grange, East Concord Congregation Church, Square Dance Club and many professional organizations.  She was a teacher and taught in the Bloomfield, CT School System for 30 years.  She enjoyed square dancing, billiards, sewing, painting, crocheting and telling stories from her life.
She was the widow of her husband of 58 years, Clarence C. Whittier and is survived by a son, Charles A. “Chuck” Whittier and wife Susan B. Whittier of Newport.  Two grandchildren, Lena R. Kemble and husband Patrick of Newport and Scott J. Whittier and wife Carey of Wallingford, CT.  7 great grandchildren, Glenn, Eric, and Lauren Kemble; Jared, Ashley, Aiden and Jillian Whittier.  A great great granddaughter, Emma Kemble.
Memorial services will be held at 10 AM on Saturday, December 17, 2016 at The Bridges at Bent Creek.  Burial will be with her late husband in The Veterans Cemetery, New Hampshire.
