Ray E. McMillen

March 17, 1928 – December 8, 2019

Ray E. McMillen, 91, formerly of Loysville, passed away peacefully surrounded by family Sunday afternoon, December 8 at Chambersburg Hospital.  He was born March 17, 1928 in Kistler to the late Dwight and Ruth (McConnell) McMillen.

He was a lifelong dairy farmer.  He was a member of Centre Presbyterian Church and has served as elder, trustee, superintendent & a Sunday School teacher for over 35 years. He served as president of the Perry Co. ArtificiaI Breeders Co op, the Holstein Club, DHIA, & Ag Extension.  Also, he  served as Director for State DHIA, PAFC and the Holstein Association for many years.   He served as Grange Treasurer for over 60 years & past District DHIA Treasurer, director of First PA, NEBA, Sire Power & Select Sire Power, a Twp. Supervisor & Auditor. He was a delegate to the National Holstein Convention many times.  He served as a 4H leader and involved with the Penn State Judging Team.   Some of the awards he received were  Master Farmer, PA Holstein Hall of Fame, Mister Perry Co., Conservation Award, Perry Co. Voters Hall of Fame and the Grange Distinguished Service Award.  Among the events he hosted at his farm in Perry Co. were the Perry Co. 4H Roundup, District 4H Roundup, National Holstein Classification Field Day, and tours from Holland, Germany, China, Japan and the U.S.

His philosophy was to treat others the way you want to be treated, live every day to the fullest, live every day so you don’t need to fear tomorrow and with lots of laughter and don’t worry.

Surviving are his wife, Barbara A. (Gamble) McMillen, three sons, Edward E.McMillen and wife Wilma, Larry L. McMillen and wife Donna, John E. McMillen and wife Joanne, a daughter Carolyn (McMillen) Neely and husband Scot.  10 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren.   Surviving siblings are Lucille Snyder, Janice Hench, Wanda Harris, and Carl McMillen.  Preceded in death a sister, Bernice Dovey.  Also, preceded in death by his first wife Helen G. (Lyons) McMillen.

Services will be held Saturday, December 14, 2019 at Centre Presbyterian Church, 3912 Freeman Hollow Rd., Loysville, PA  17047.  The viewing is from 9:00 -12:00 and funeral service at 12:00 pm.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Centre Presbyterian Church.
