Mary L. Dell

Mary L. Dell, 91, formerly of New Bloomfield passed away on Thursday, January 21, 2021 at The Church of God Home in Carlisle.  Born August 7, 1929 in Newport, she was the daughter of the late Albert Bud Smith and Louise Garlin Smith.

Mary was a lifelong member of New Bloomfield United Methodist Church and a graduate of  New Bloomfield High School.  Mary had been a telephone operator for the former United Telephone Co. and retired after 22 years as a Dispatcher for Perry County Control, police, fire and ambulance.  Mary was a community volunteer having worked with the New Bloomfield Fire Co. auxiliary as well as meals on wheels for the New Bloomfield Senior Center.  She represented New Bloomfield at the State Firemans Convention for many years.

She was the widow of F. Samuel Dell to whom she was married for 31 years and remained faithful until her death.  Surviving are her son, John Dell and wife Suzanne of New Bloomfield and a daughter Mary Lou Sherman of Carlisle.  5 grandchildren, Alex, Hannah, Amara and husband Reed, Farren, and Cameron, and one great grandson.  She was preceded in death by sublings Ethel Billington (1/15/20) Marguerite Brunner (11/7/09) and Samuel Smith killed during the Battle of of the Bulge during World War II ( 12/25/44)


Graveside services will be held at 11 AM in New Bloomfield Cemetery on Wednesday, January 27, 2021.  Pastor Ellen Scamahorn will officiate.

Memorial contributions may be made to New Bloomfield Fire Co., 23 N. High Street, New Bloomfield PA 17068.
