Jay Melvin Thomas

1/12/41 – 11/22/20

So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen, since what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.

– 2 Corinthians 4:18

Jay Melvin Thomas, 79, of Harrisburg, went to be with his Lord and Savior on November 22, 2020 at the Jewish Home of Greater Harrisburg. He fought a year long battle against the complications of diabetes and then COVID-19.  Born January 12, 1941 in Millersville, he was the son of the late Clyde and Miriam (Leipert) Thomas.

Jay was very devoted to Shirley (Esbenshade), his wife of 57 years.  He was always gracious and willing to help others, especially family and friends. He was also known to be a jokester at times and enjoyed making others laugh.  Working as a farmer most of his life, he was a very hard-working man and enjoyed the beauty of nature and being outdoors.  Jay also worked in construction and eventually retired from Lowes.   He enjoyed trains, traveling, and camping with his family.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by 3 children:  Deb and husband Gary Bender of Liverpool, Barry and wife Melissa Thomas of Newport and Scott and wife Linda Thomas of Newport.  He has 11 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren and a brother, Nelson Thomas of Maytown.

He is preceded in death by his parents and 2 brothers,  Kenneth and James Thomas.
