Barbara Claire Sill

11/3/39 – 5/8/21

So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen, since what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.

– 2 Corinthians 4:18

Barbara Claire Sill, 81, of New Bloomfield, passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 8, 2021, in Stonebridge Health & Rehabilitation Center, Duncannon, with her family by her bedside.  Barb was born on November 3, 1939, in New Bloomfield.

Barb was the daughter of the late Sylvester Shope and Dorothy (Gray) Shope.  In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband of almost 44 years, Jacques “Jac” Sill; her sister, Frances Shope; and her sister-in-law, Patricia Comp and her husband Paul.  Barb was a loving and devoted mother and grandmother, survived by her daughter, Sharon Wise and her husband Kevin and daughter, Karen Sill, granddaughter, Jamie Jones-Rodgers and husband David Rodgers, and grandson, Zachary Wise and his fiancée Nicole Shetler.  Barb is also survived by her only niece, Debra (Comp) Funk and husband Robert and their family, and two close cousins, Patricia (Fuller) Stewart and Alan Fuller and their families.

Barb graduated from Perry Joint High School in 1957.  During her high school years, she was a majorette, played basketball and clarinet.  She was instrumental in organizing and enjoyed attending the Perry Joint Class Reunions.  She was a faithful member of Christ Lutheran Church.  Because of her husband’s job, she lived in several PA locations as well as Indianapolis, IN, over the years, coming back to Perry County to live for the past 16 years.

Barb was a member of many organizations and she was active in all of them.  She was a 50+ year member, Past Grand Officer, Deputy Grand Matron, and Past Matron of the  Order of the Eastern Star.  She was also active in Ladies Oriental Shrine, Merry Widows, Past Queen of Daughters of the Nile, American Business Women’s Association (Woman of the Year), the New Bloomfield Fire Company Ways & Means Committee, and the New Bloomfield Fire Company Ladies Auxiliary.  She enjoyed traveling for several of these organizations and consequently made many, many friends across PA as well as in other jurisdictions.  Barb loved to attend their luncheons & meetings, always chauffeuring for her local friends.  Until recently, Barb also enjoyed vacation traveling ~ bus day trips, cruises, and various trips to Europe as well as within the US.  Barb was happiest when she was doing for others and this kept her busy until her final days.  She loved baking for fire company events, cooking for covered dish suppers, and coordinating & supporting fundraisers for various organizations.  She opened her home to many friends visiting from other parts of the state; her home became lovingly known as “Barb’s Bed & Breakfast”.
