Barbara A. “Babs” Curran, of New Bloomfield, formerly of Woburn, MA, died peacefully on December 30, 2019 in Rockport. MA.
Born and educated in Woburn, Babs was the beloved daughter of the late Albert and Barbara (Bucci) Curran. After graduation from Woburn High School, Babs attended Shepard-Gill School of Nursing where she received her LPN. In later years she completed her bachelor’s degree in nursing from Salem State College.
For over 30 years Babs worked at Mass General Hospital. It was there she impacted so many lives and made lasting friendships. She was a mentor to many.
After her retirement in 1998, Babs moved to New Bloomfield where she and her best friend Annette Mullen, started a sheep farm. She loved being surrounded by nature and animals. She opened several
“Curves For Women”, one still remains, now known as “All About Your Fitness.” Babs was an inspiration to many and easily created community around her.
She was a talented woman and she loved to craft and garden. She worked hard to make her hilltop gardens a thing of beauty. She was a member of various quilting guilds and also enjoyed sewing, knitting and crocheting. She also enjoyed her work as a board of Duncannon Senior Citizens.
In 2012 Babs was diagnosed with inflammatory breast cancer. She did not allow the diagnosis to shake her. But instead, she was determined to live her life to its fullest. She purchased a condo on the ocean in Rockport and spent her final weeks and months near family, enjoying the sounds of the ocean.
Babs is survived and will be deeply missed by her siblings, Albert Curran and wife Linda of Concord, Cheryl Curran and her wife Pam Courtleigh of Rockport, Thomas Curran and wife Kelly of Gloucester and Michael Curran and wife Patricia of Bradford. Loving aunt of Christopher and Evan Curran, Chelsea, Verrington, Nora, Logan, James and Tyler Curran. Also, by her dear friends, Annette Mullen, Deb Strawser as well as her second family in Pennsylvania.
A memorial service, to celebrate her life, will be held at 11 AM on Saturday, February 1, 2020 at Cornerstone Christian Church, 595 New Bloomfield Road, Duncannon. A visitation will be held from 10-11 AM. All are welcome to a luncheon following the service at the church.
